The texture of this case is actually perfect! It’s grippy without being TOO grippy. It’s still easy to slide into a pocket, and it doesn’t catch lint at all which is a huge plus for cat owners.
It also looks great, works well with magsafe products, and has held up well so far (although I’m not one to drop my phone very often).
This is still a great case. My issues are that that case has become much heavier than it was and the texture doesn’t hold my apple leather wallet very securely. I prefer the older, smooth sheath. The texture does provide a better grip, but I still don’t like it and I’d rather not lose my wallet. Just my personal opinion. Take it for what it’s worth
Hi Brett, thanks much for your review. Sheath has come a long, long ways since the days you alluded to when the case was much thinner. At the time, we received constant feedback that the case was a little too thin and didn't provide enough grip. So, over the years, we've gradually rebuilt the case from the ground up to be even more protective with an even more refined texture. In the years since we've made our updates, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Customers love how much more protective and solid Sheath feels now.
What we typically suggest to customers coming from much older versions of Sheath is to simply use the case for a few weeks. Since the difference is really just a fraction of a millimeter and a fraction of an ounce, any difference with the older versions will simply go unnoticed after you get used to the new case. My new Caudabe case for my iPhone 13 mini is everything I'd hoped. Protective, attractive, easy to grip but doesn't get stuck in my pocket, and MagSafe tech works well. There's a reason it's so well reviewed!!

My family has always had the Sheath for their phones. Coworkers have switched its just a great case. If the company ever wants to make it the perfect case, figure out how to mold around each camera and fill that open square in for the iphone too!!
